The Dean Writes

The Dean Writes

from Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Over the past month I have travelled by plane, bus, train, taxi, and many, many kilometres by foot, on pilgrimage. On June 9th at noon, I arrived in Santiago de Compostela having completed the Camino Frances. The journey is always more important than the destination and what a journey it has been - so much more than I ever imagined! I have many stories and learnings to share with you upon my return in September. But for now, the most important thing is to tell you how very much you have been with me. Your prayers, encouragement and love upheld and blessed me every step along the way, from the best to the worst moments and back again. And as I waited for the Pilgrim Mass to begin, gratitude for you, and the life and ministry of our Cathedral, completely overwhelmed me. We have been on quite a journey together since September 2020 and this is the perfect time to step away for a bit, reflect, refocus and refresh. Thank you for being you and for supporting this time of sabbatical. May you have a lovely summer!

To spare?

If you have rhubarb to spare, washed and cut and in a plastic bag, the Cathedral Women would welcome the donation. They will store it in the freezer and turn it into pie in the fall - yum!

Cathedral Choirs at Westminster Abbey

Cathedral Choirs at Westminster Abbey

Just a short year from now our Girls Choir, Boys Choir and Lay Clerks will be embarking on a performance tour to London, UK where they will be the "Choir in Residence" at Westminster Abbey the week of July 19-25, 2027. This is a significant honour and an amazing opportunity for our choristers to learn and to grow.
Logistical and financial planning is already well underway by a dedicated team of volunteers. Come the fall our fundraising events will launch in earnest and throughout next season there will be many opportunities to show your support, including: Saturday, November 7th, 2026 - A gala concert with silent auction here at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa featuring the music of John Rutter.
Mark your calendars now and thank you!

An Invitation to Share in Hope

An Invitation to Share in Hope

At Christ Church Cathedral

It is easy to be moved by the sacred beauty and warm welcome of Christ Church Cathedral — a place some encounter briefly, and others come to call their spiritual home. It is a place that nourishes the soul through worship and music, care and community, and it exists because of generosity: the generosity of those who have gone before us, and the generosity of those who give today.

To share hope faithfully and sustainably, our Cathedral must be well resourced. As an expression of joy and gratitude, you are invited to consider how you might respond. Click below to explore an invitation to give, to see what your giving makes possible, and to learn how it is easy to give. Thank you for responding to this place that sustains you by offering your own gifts in return.
