A Wonderful Weekend

A Wonderful Weekend

With Andrew Balfour

Thanks to Andrew McAnerney, our Associate Director of Music, and his amazing connections, our Cathedral enjoyed a unique weekend with Andrew Balfour, twice Juno nominated Cree composer and director. On Saturday, June 14th, 70 people from Ottawa and beyond enjoyed learning and hearing from Andrew Balfour and then practising and performing some of his works. On Sunday, National Indigenous Day of Prayer was celebrated at the 10.30 am service with a special liturgy including praying to the four directions with smudging, specially curated prayers, and Andrew Balfour directing our choirs. Thanks to all who contributed to such a wonderful event and service!

Cathedral Girls Choir

Cathedral Girls Choir

On their way to Ireland

From July 2nd to 14th our Girls Choir, along with James, Dean Beth, and a host of chaperones, will be exploring Ireland! The choir will sing in St. Anne's Cathedral, Belfast; St. Nicholas Collegiate Church, Galway; Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin; and St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. Thank you for supporting this amazing opportunity with your donations and your prayers. Looking forward to hearing all the stories upon their return!

The Reverend Canon Rob Heard

The Reverend Canon Rob Heard

Moves into full retirement

Canon Rob has truly been a blessing to our Cathedral in his ministry as Honorary Assistant! He has been a wonderful sounding board and excellent listener, delighted us with his preaching and teaching, and been a steadfast member of our clergy team. Though stepping down from his current role, Canon Rob and Beverley will continue to worship at our Cathedral so we remain blessed. Thank you, Canon Rob!

Director of Operations and Development

Sometimes the person that an organization is looking for is right there, just waiting for the right time to serve. Please welcome Nicholas Galambos into his new role as of September 2nd!

Nicholas writes: "Since graduating in 2000 with a MBA from the University of Ottawa, I have focused my employment in the not-for-profit sector, ranging from medical research to supporting emergency and pediatric doctors to international agricultural programs and working with people with disabilities. My career has progressively advanced from bookkeeper to manager of finance to my current position as Director of Finance & Administration at Causeway Work Centre (a not-for-profit agency that empowers people with mental illness and other challenges to find meaningful employment). I look forward to assuming the position of the Director of Operations and Development at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa in September 2025."

Thank you, Nicholas, welcome to the Cathedral staff team!

Thank you, Josh

For being among us

Josh writes: "Many thanks to the Cathedral community for your warm welcome to me over the last few months while I did my doctoral fieldwork. I am grateful for your willingness to be interviewed and to share your experiences with me. This first stage of my research has concluded, but I look forward to sharing more about my research over the course of the next several months. If you have any questions, as always, please feel free to reach out to me (jzent029@uottawa.ca). Blessings to you in your continued ministry."

Thank you!

This photo reflects the joy and delight of ministering among you at Christ Church Cathedral! These past ten months have been rich and amazing as we have welcomed new members, built relationships, opened our doors, and worshipped God in word and song and silence. It is a gift to be part of and experience the positive and can do attitude of our Cathedral. Each one of you contributes to our vibrant life and ministry, and for you, I am deeply grateful. As we move into the summer months, may you have time to simply rest, rejuvenate, and enjoy. Blessings!
