Belong Ottawa and Ride for Refuge

Belong Ottawa and Ride for Refuge

Fall fundraiser

At its three locations in downtown Ottawa—Centre 454, St. Luke’s Table and The Well—Belong Ottawa serves more than 600 meals a day and provides many more supportive services to a growing number of vulnerable people in the city. With both need and costs on the rise, the Anglican Community Ministry is hoping to raise $20,000 with its first-time participation in the Ride for Refuge fundraiser on October 4th to help meet urgent needs.

St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, Elmvale Acres (934 Hamlet Rd.) has volunteered to be  the start and finish point. Participants can choose the length of course that suits them — 2.5 or 5 km or bike 10 or 20 km. It is a great way to provide vital support for vulnerable people in Ottawa, but it can also be a fun opportunity for team building.

“If you haven’t joined yet, there’s still time—come be part of something that truly makes a difference,” says Young. Register at: https://en.rideforrefuge.org/location/ottawaelmvaleacres

There is also the possibility of sharing this joureny with Christ's Church Cathedral in Hamilton, ON, as their Dean, colleague and friend of Dean Beth, is from New Zealand. Hearts of Compassion Fund

Hearts of Compassion Fund

Celebrating the ministry of Bishop Shane

To honour and celebrate Bishop Shane’s ministry among us, our diocese has launched the Hearts of Compassion Fund (HCF) to reflect his commitment to enabling our church to serve the most vulnerable members of society. Donations to HCF will be distributed annually amongst the Community Ministries of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa as they continue to provide safety and essential services such as food programs, housing, counselling, refugee sponsorship, and community outreach for people living in vulnerable or precarious circumstances. These ministries are Belong Ottawa, Centre 105 in Cornwall, Cornerstone Housing for Women, the Ottawa Pastoral Counselling Centre, and the Refugee Ministry Office. More information on the Community Ministries is available here.

“Each of our Community Ministries began with Anglican followers of Jesus in the parishes of our diocese. They saw human need with hearts of compassion and responded with action. As each community ministry developed, we invited people of goodwill from the wider community to open their hearts of compassion and join with us to share in taking action. And so, the Community Ministries of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa have become places of compassion, inclusion, and hope for the most vulnerable members of our society, beloved children of God who seek refuge, friendship, housing, and healing in body and spirit. And they are places where all people with hearts of compassion can contribute to the well-being of others.” — Bishop Shane Parker.

In lieu of personal gifts, Archbishop Shane invites you to make a donation to the Hearts of Compassion Fund (HCF). Donations can be made through the Canada Helps HCF page: www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/133804, or by using the attached "Donation Form", if you wish to send in a cheque or make a payment by credit card. Please give generously, in the spirit of thanksgiving!

A special call for flower dedications at Christmas, Easter and All Souls are another opportunity to celebrate the lives of loved ones.

If you would like to contribute to this ministry, contact info@ottawacathedral.ca. A donation of $175 is suggested for Sunday flower arrangements. Please mark the cheque memo or e-transfer "Altar Guild Flowers" and a tax receipt will be issued.
