Introducing

Our Bishop-Elect!

The Venerable Kathryn Otley has been elected the 11th Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa following a vote at an Electoral Synod held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa. Thank you to all the Cathedral staff and volunteers who provided such a warm welcome, beautiful liturgy and music, and great attention to detail -- we have been thanked by many who attended!

Bishop-Elect Kathryn Otley will be consecrated and formally installed as Bishop of Ottawa on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Christ Church Cathedral. The service will gather clergy and lay representatives from across the Diocese, together with ecumenical partners, civic leaders, and guests from across Canada.

We give thanks for the faithful participation of all who were part of this discernment process and invite the Diocese to hold Bishop-Elect Kathryn Otley and her family in prayer as she prepares to undertake this new ministry among us.

We are pleased to announce that in accordance with Canon III.1 of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario, the Ontario House of Bishops has provided its concurrence of the election of the Ven. Kathryn Otley as the 11th Bishop of Ottawa. This concurrence is a necessary step in the election to Episcopal Office in the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario. The election and confirmation of the Ven. Kathryn Otley is now deemed to be final.

For the Cathedral Girls Choir

On Sunday, March 1st, Michaëlle Jean, former Governor-General of Canada, attended Choral Evensong and delighted the girls by speaking with them following the service. Music Associate, Nick Veltmeyer, works at the Michaëlle Jean Foundation and invited her to the service. How lovely!

Beseeching the Heavens?

Beseeching the Heavens?

Talking to God?

While the Vicar stays grounded by polishing the brass plaque on the Cathedral floor, the Dean is often seen to be gazing upwards and gesturing heavenwards. Apparently the fans were somehow tied into the original lighting system, and since the lighting is almost but not yet complete, two of the fans currently have a mind of their own - often turning themselves off completely or speeding up and casuing a mighty wind. The white object in the Dean's hand is the remote control for the fans so it isn't just her beseeching gaze that operates them. And, by the way, the fans must remain on at all times to ensure that air is circulated throughout the Cathedral - keeping it warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and free from mould.

An Invitation to Share in Hope

An Invitation to Share in Hope

At Christ Church Cathedral

It is easy to be moved by the sacred beauty and warm welcome of Christ Church Cathedral — a place some encounter briefly, and others come to call their spiritual home. It is a place that nourishes the soul through worship and music, care and community, and it exists because of generosity: the generosity of those who have gone before us, and the generosity of those who give today.

To share hope faithfully and sustainably, our Cathedral must be well resourced. As an expression of joy and gratitude, you are invited to consider how you might respond.

Click below to explore an invitation to give, to see what your giving makes possible, and to learn how it is easy to give. You may also wish to hear Dean Beth’s sermon from December 14th, which reflects on Giving with Joy. The livestream is available here.

Thank you for responding to this place that sustains you by offering your own gifts in return.
