Cathedral NewsletterSunday, May 5th, 2024 This week we celebrate the Sixth Sunday of Easter with Holy Eucharist (BCP) at 8:30 am, and Choral Eucharist (BAS) at 10:30 am. Our preacher will be The Very Reverend Beth Bretzlaff. CLICK HERE to open the 8:30 Order of Service. If you would like to save a few trees when attending services at the Cathedral, QR codes are available at both entrances so that you may follow the order of service on your phone or tablet. Please note that the Cathedral offices will remain closed Monday May 6th as the city shuts off all water service as part of the work underway on Queen Street. We will reopen Tuesday morning as usual. Please contact the office by email at info@ottawacathedral.ca if you have any questions or needs during this time. |
Did you know...... that the Anglican Chorale will sing Evensong on Sunday? Sunday, May 5th, the Anglican Chorale of Ottawa will sing evensong. The choir is preparing for their trip to England where they will be singing choral services at Chester Cathedral, Beverley Minster, and York Minster. The music selection includes several works by composers connected to York including Richard Shephard’s responses, Francis Jackson’s canticles in G and Edward Bairstow’s wonderful anthem, Blessed City. Andrew McAnerney will be directing with James Calkin at the organ. Be sure to take a moment to thank them for their visit and wish them well on this trip. |
Cathedral Steps Replacement BeginsMonday, May 6th Construction is starting! On Monday our contractors will arrive to set up the forecourt for the start of the replacement of the Cathedral’s Sparks Street steps. Due to fire regulations, the two sets of steps must be worked on sequentially and work will begin with the eastern-most steps. While the current schedule has these steps ready for use (with temporary railings) by the end of the summer and the whole project completed by the end of November, there is no way of knowing at this time if unforeseen issues, poor weather, or material availability could delay work. This is an exciting project for us as it means once again we will be able to open the historic doors to welcome people into our beautiful Cathedral. Please note that access through the Sparks Street glass doors will be available throughout the construction period. Watch for progress over the summer months! Although our official fundraising for this projects and others has not yet begun, you may donate at any time! Thank you for your patience with the construction and your generosity in supporting it. |
Voices for PentecostThe gospel in many languages Pentecost Sunday, May 19th, Bishop Shane will be making his annual cathedral parish visit. A Time of PrayerListening for Divine Sparks in our Midst An Action Plan for Contextual Mission and New Worshipping Communities was agreed at Synod in October 2023 to help us be a Spirit-led Church and create new worshipping communities in parishes across our diocese. Monthly resources have been developed to pray, listen, consider and be inspired. These resources invite us to reflect and pray about how being fed by the Spirit can and should guide our actions in the world. You will find prayers of the people (PRAY), a Bible study guide for a selected Scripture passage (LISTEN), information on religiosity in Canada (CONSIDER) and a short video interview with Kitty Galt, whose actions at All Saints’ Sandy Hill were the origins of Cornerstone Housing for Women (INSPIRE).

We do not have details as to the extent nor timing of the closures so please plan accordingly when travelling to and from the Cathedral. We thank you in advance for your patience as this work is undertaken. |
