Behind the ScenesRepaired with love Part of the beauty and colour of the Cathedral is found on the hangings - the fabric pieces which hang on the pulpit, lectern and altar. These indicate the season of the church calendar. Some of our hangings are modern and others are very old. Dawn and Holly may be found in the Lambeth room on Thursdays, repairing the older hangings. This is meticulous work and often requires artistic ingenuity as old fabric needs special care and attention, and sometimes entire sections, like the backing, need to be replaced. Thank you, Dawn and Holly! Below you will find a link to a video on the seasons of the church year from the Diocese of Auckland (located within The Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia). One thing to note is that in the season of Advent blue may be used instead of purple - the meaning is the same but it differentiates Advent from Lent - and our Cathedral features amazing blue hangings with stars that catch the light. Coming soon as Advent begins on December 1st this year! For more infomation visit:
