Cathedral Newsletter for October 25th, 2020
We are having one Eucharist service on Sundays at 10.30 am, and pre-registration is required for in-person attendance so that we can maintain safe distancing for all. Please email or call the cathedral office in order to register. Our preacher this week is Dean Beth Bretzlaff. The service will be podcast from on our YouTube site. Promotion of Cathedral Choristers
The start of the new term is when the choristers for the boys choir receive promotions and this year is no exception. On Sunday Arthur Sudo and Spencer McWatt will become prefects and three new senior choristers will be commissioned; Justin Sidaros becomes the Dean's Chorister and Jeremy O'Connor and Ieuan Williams will lead the choristers as Head Boys. |

A Virtual Hymn SingRaise Your Voices! Have you missed singing hymns with others over the last months? Why not come to the Cathedral's first ever Virtual Hymn Sing on Friday October 30th at 7:00pm. Cathedral musicians, including choristers from VOCES Cathedrae, have created an innovative online platform to support participants in singing TOGETHER a selection of harvest-themed hymns. All Soul's Service and Remembering Loved Ones
On Sunday November 1st at 4pm there will be a Requiem Eucharist for All Souls. Installation of the Dean of OttawaWith Collations and Installations of New Archdeacons and Canons - Sunday, November 22, 2020 Bishop Shane is pleased to announce that these appointments will be formalized at a service of Evening Prayer: - The Very Reverend Beth Bretzlaff will be installed as Dean of Ottawa and Rector of Christ Church Cathedral The Venerable Pat Johnston will be the preacher. Clergy are invited to sit in the nave. As Amber protocols will be in effect, it is necessary to pre-register for this service. Stewardship Month
Stewardship month will run to mid November with Christ the King, November 22nd set as Pledge Sunday. Wednesday Noon Eucharist
We now offer one weekday eucharist each week, Wednesdays at noon in the main sanctuary. In order to provide a range of worship experiences, each week we will use a different liturgy: 1st week of the month - BAS eucharist with the Litany of Reconciliation; 2nd week of the month - Creation focused eucharist using the New Zealand Prayer Book; 3rd week of the month - Healing focused eucharist using resources from Iona; 4th week of the month - traditional BCP communion service. We continue to follow all public health guidelines and so pre-registration and regular physical distancing practices are required. All worshippers are asked to arrive for the service by the 414 Sparks entrance and will be required to wear a mask at all times indoors. The eucharist will be celebrated and communion offered by bread only (gluten free wafers will be available). |
Evensong Tuning up to Restart in NovemberPlus Drinks with the Dean, Virtually! Beginning November 5th, and for the four weeks, choral evensong will be offered (following all guidelines) in the cathedral Thursday evenings beginning at 5:30 pm. Pre-registration is required and can be requested by contacting the office by email at info@ottawacathedral.ca or by phone at 613.236.9149. Following the evensong each Thursday in November, you are invited to join "drinks with the Dean" at 7 pm, a virtual event. Multi-Church Community Book StudyAll Invited! Six different leaders from across the diocese have joined together to offer an online book study and community gathering via Zoom. This program started on October 21st and runs for six weeks from 7pm-8:15pm, looking at Brian McLaren’s book “The Great Spiritual Migration.” Brian McLaren shows how we can embrace three powerful understandings that are reshaping the practice of faith: Spirituality, Theology, and Mission. McLaren invites readers to seize the moment and set out on the most significant spiritual pilgrimage of our time.
