Cathedral Newsletter for December 31st, 2020
As this week comes to an end we extend our sincere wishes to everyone for a very happy New Year. None of us could have predicted what 2020 had in store when this year began! We look forward to 2021 with hope for good health and recovery of body and spirit. We look forward to gathering again and sharing so much of what we missed together. This Sunday we welcome you to celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord at 10:30 am. Our preacher this week is Canon Doug Richards. During this period of lockdown, we welcome the Reverend Victoria Scott, who will be assisting with our livestreamed Sunday worship, and the parish of St. Luke's Ottawa, who will be worshipping with us online. Please join us Sunday morning! https://www.youtube.com/c/christchurchcathedralottawa As we have returned to the RED level of restriction under pandemic guidelines there will not be any in-person service. Please join our live-stream from our YouTube channel (click the link below). We hope you will share this service with others in appropriate ways, abiding physical distancing. Christmas messages to friends in retirement and long-term careGifts of music, poinsettias and sweet treats The week before Christmas members of the Cathedral music ministry provided a gift of music to residents at the Carlingwood Retirement Community. Members of the Cathedral Girls' Choir raised their voices over a windy afternoon to bring carols of the season to friends including a few members of our own congregation. A lovely reminder that we continue to think of them. The Pastoral Care team delivered Christmas parcels that included poinsettias, sweet treats and messages from the Cathedral to shut-ins at various locations around the city. |
Listening and learning in the deep winter forest and on our journey through the pandemicA Message from the Bishop I have spent many hours on snowshoes. When I was a young man, I would travel with friends for several days in the snow-laden forests of Algonquin Park, between stations where the train could drop us off and pick us up, by way of frozen creeks, rivers and lakes—and careful orienteering through the deep woods.
