Cathedral Newsletter for November 28th, 2021
This Sunday we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. Please join us! Holy Eucharist (BCP) begins at 8:30 am followed by a Choral Eucharist (BAS) at 10:30 am. Our preacher will be Canon Doug Richards. Please note the proof of vaccination accompanied by provincial ID is required for attendance at all services. Masks must be worn at all times except when receiving communion. Tuning Up for the SeasonThank you, Elias! This week, just in time for Advent and Christmas, saw the installation by Elias Dubelsten (pictured) of our new choir microphones suspended high above the chancel floor. Elias has a career that takes him all over the world recording classical music soloists and ensembles. He engineered the sound for our recent Solemn Requiem, as well as last season's Christmas and Holy Week choir videos. |

Compline for Advent
Compline will be offered weekly during Advent, beginning Friday evening, December 3rd at 9 pm with Canon Doug Richards and Andrew McAnerney. Please note that compline will be offered on-line only. There will not be an in-person service. This offering will be available on our YouTube channel and will continue on Friday evenings to December 17th. |

Diocesan Ordination of PriestsSaturday December 4th at 11 am God willing, Bishop Shane intends to ordain Caroline Ducros, Mark Lewis, Cynthia MacLachlan and Robert Sicard to the priesthood, on the Eve of the Feast of St. Clement of Alexandria. All are welcome to attend, either in person or via our live-stream. And please keep the ordinands in your prayers. |

Diocesan 125th Anniversary Lecture SeriesAuthor Michelle Good on Monday, December 6th at 7.30 pm
Michelle Good, author of the Governor General's Award-winning novel Five Little Indians, will deliver the first lecture in a series that commemorates the 125th anniversary of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa. The lecture will be offered on Zoom for those who wish to register and have the opportunity to ask questions. Click here to register for Zoom. Music for Seniors... and everyone else In July we presented this unique project created by one of the choristers in our Cathedral Girls' Choir. This lovely initiative was the created by Aleesha Katary with her friend, Ally Guo as a way to bring high school students together with seniors in the community. Music for Seniors offers virtual concerts and this month they offer the newly released 10th concert in the series. Enjoy! For more infomation visit:

Cathedral Women Offer Holiday FavoritesA chance to get a head start on your holiday shopping The Cathedral Women are pleased to offer a few of your holiday favorites for sale between and after services for the next few weeks. Stop by the Great Hall for different treats every week. Homemade soups will be available this week along with Christmas cakes and jams. You still have time to pick up a few hand knitted treasures. Please bring your own bag where possible in order to facilitate reduced contact. |

Gift Bags for Centre 454Hat and socks, mittens and muffs... Every year our Cathedral community comes together to prepare gift bags for the Centre 454 Christmas party. Although Community Ministries will not be able to host a festive party in the Great Hall, your contributions are more important than ever! Our Cathedral Men's Group are coordinating our contributions. Please pick up your bag in the foyer on Sunday or gather items in a bag or box of your choosing, and they will make sure all bags get to the incredible staff and volunteers who will bring Christmas to many in our community who need assistance. This year we ask that you drop your contributions (items for the gift bags) off here at the cathedral by December 10th. Please contact the Cathedral office for more information. |

Children may be brought to the Great Hall at the beginning of the 10.30 am service, where they will enjoy a Godly Play story and faith-based activities. Children will return to their parents in the Cathedral at the Peace. We look forward to seeing you! |

Important InformationRegarding attending services We have moved to a new stage of reopening so please read this carefully as under Ontario Government Regulations, no exceptions are permitted. What is REQUIRED to attend worship or any other event at our Cathedral: • Proof of vaccination (or a medical exemption) and photo identification MUST be shown for each attendee, EVERY time you enter the Cathedral, unless you are 12 years old or younger For those who may not be able to attend due to this change, please do worship with us via the live-stream. This change in policy means the following: • Registration for worship services is no longer required Thank you for your patience and respect of one another’s sensitivities as we continue to move safely and surely forward. If you have concerns or questions, please direct them to Dean Beth. |

Cathedral Open during the WeekFor personal reflection, labyrinth walking and Columbarium visits Welcome back to our Cathedral during the week! The Cathedral, labyrinth, and columbarium are now open Tuesdays through Thursday between 10 am and 1 pm, in accordance with current guidelines. Please note that all visits may be subject to meetings, services and other activities scheduled during the week. Access is via the Queen Street entrance, and all visitors are required to check it at reception and provide proof of vacination and photo identification before proceeding to any location within the premises.
