Boys Choir and Lay Clerks

Off to Quebec City this weekend

Thank you to all who have helped fundraise for this choir trip! You generously donated $500 last Sunday alone - mind you, who could resist these smiles? Looking forward to the tales upon their return.

Listening to Our Inner Wisdom

Listening to Our Inner Wisdom

Through the labyrinth and earth’s gift of clay

“We have much to learn from within, but it is easy to get lost... So we need solitude and community simultaneously; what we learn in one mode can check and balance what we learn in the other. Together they make us whole...” Parker J. Palmer, A Hidden Wholeness

Join in a two-part retreat inspired by Parker J. Palmer. You may attend one or both events. Friday evening (Part 1), May 23rd, is at Earthen Vessels, a pottery studio hosted by Ginger McCoy. Saturday afternoon (Part 2), May 24th, takes place at the Labyrinth at Christ Church Cathedral.

Who will be received as an Anglican Priest

Bishop Shane announces his intention to receive into the Anglican Communion the Reverend Sony Jabouin, a priest ordained by the Roman Catholic Church, following careful discernment and preparation; and recognize his priesthood and place him under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa. Many of you will remember Sony, who spent time worshipping at our Cathedral and being a wonderful member of the Sidespersons Guild and Hospitality Team. His reception will happen at a public celebration of the Eucharist at 7 pm on May 26th, the Feast of St Augustine of Canterbury, in the Church of St Bartholomew, Ottawa. All are welcome to attend!

Voices for Pentecost

Voices for Pentecost

Do you speak a language other than English?

If so, Canon Doug needs to hear from you! It would be wonderful to have some of our African and Caribbean voices, along with others, heard as the gospel is read at the 10.30 am service on Pentecost Sunday, June 8th. Please be in touch with Canon Doug (doug.richards@ottawacathedral.ca or 613- 236-9149 ext 191) by Monday, June 2nd to volunteer. You will be reading as part of a group, all at once, so no need to be nervous! Thank you.

Good News

From our young Palestinian friend

Tareq Qirreh, the young Palestinian from Jerusalem whom we welcomed to the Cathedral over Christmas and the New Year and shown here with Corey, has completed his first year of studies in Life Sciences at the University of Toronto with flying colours. Of the 10 courses for which he earned credit, he achieved a grade of A+ in seven and A in the other three!

Tareq is very grateful to our Cathedral and our Diocese for the financial support which helped make this possible. Warm thanks to everyone who made a contribution! He is now reunited with his family in Palestine for the summer, and will be returning to Canada in September. Bishop Shane has pledged assistance through the remaining three years of his bachelor degree studies at the UofT, so perhaps Tareq will be back again for a visit again during his second year.
