Boy Choristers Debut

Boy Choristers Debut

In Puccini's Tosca at the NAC

Two of our boy choristers will be making their solo operatic debuts in Puccini’s Tosca at the National Arts Center (NAC) from September 10th to 12th. Declan, our current head boy and Paul, our longest serving chorister, will alternate between singing and understudying the Shepherd boy aria "Io de' sospiri" ("I give you sighs"). Under the direction of maestro Shelley, accompanied by the orchestra of the NAC and a dazzling vocal cast, our boys will open the third Act, setting the scene for the opera’s dramatic denouement.

This is not the first time Christ Church Choristers have made operatic debuts at the NAC; in 1978 and 1981 two groups of four boys (including one who is now an adult lay clerk) appeared as fairies in Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream.
