Fire at St. Luke's Ottawa

Fire at St. Luke's Ottawa

Statement from Bishop Shane

On Tuesday, October 11, 2022 fire broke out in the east transept of St. Luke's Church on Somerset Street West in Ottawa, causing major and extensive damage to the sanctuary and nave, and widespread water damage in the basement area where St. Luke's Table operates. Fortunately, no one was injured; unfortunately, the building cannot be used by the congregation or the day program any time soon.

A Familiar Practice Returns

A Familiar Practice Returns

Receiving communion along the altar rail

Last Sunday we returned to the practice of receiving communion along the altar rail instead of at standing stations. If you have become accustomed to standing and wish to stand at the rail, please do. If you prefer to kneel, please do.

If you need a little extra space around you, please take it. If stairs are an issue for accessing the rail, please use the ramp on the east side of the nave. Also, communion may be brought to those with mobility challenges, please just mention this to a sidesperson. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to Dean Beth.

Coffee Hour

An Intergenerational Event

An Intergenerational Event

Sunday, October 16th after the 10.30 am service

Please join us this Sunday for an intergenerational event marking the Season of Creation, a global celebration and call to action for the Christian community. This year we will unite around the theme “Listen to the Voice of Creation" and the symbol of the burning bush.

We will visit the story of God’s presence revealed to Moses through the burning bush. This holy fire affirmed that God heard the cries of all who suffered, and promised to be with us as we followed in faith to our deliverance from injustice. We reflect on the fires we see in the world today, the voices going unheard, and the ways God calls us into action.

The session will take place after the 10:30 am service and will include lunch, a story, and group activities for adults and children alike.

Please register for this event below, or email to info@ottawacathedral.ca or call the cathedral office at (613) 236 9149.

Homelessness and Affordable Housing

Homelessness and Affordable Housing

Making your vote on October 24th count

The Anglican Church of Canada and the Diocese of Ottawa have officially declared homelessness and affordable housing to be a priority for our church. In January of this year, Ottawa City Council unanimously declared an emergency on housing and homelessness. Yet despite the attention given to this issue, homelessness and the lack of affordable housing continue at unprecedented levels. Please click below to find some helpful questions for the candidates about their stand on this important issue.
