Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

January 18th to 25th, 2024

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (WPCU) is an ecumenical celebration held each year. Christians around the world are invited to pray for the unity of all Christians, to reflect on scripture together, to participate in ecumenical services and the share fellowship. The theme for 2024 is based on Luke 10:27. The theme of this year's WPCU materials invites Christians to explore how we find our common identity in the experience of God's love. Daily scripture readings, reflections, discussion questions and prayers are available at the link below.

A Time of Prayer
Wonderous God, we praise you for the gifts of the Holy Spirit which you continue to shower upon us. Help us to be faithful disciples of all that Jesus taught us. Inspire us to look out into our world with Jesus’ loving eyes as we seek to discern your divine sparks around us. Guide us so that we understand how you want us to be messengers of your good news in our communities and our diocese. We ask
this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A Prayer for Peace
O God of all justice and peace, we cry out to you in the midst of the pain and trauma of violence and fear which prevails in the Holy Land. Be with those who need you in these days of suffering; we pray for people of all faiths - Jews, Muslims, Christians, and for all people of the land. While we pray to you, O Lord, for an end to the violence and the establishment of peace, we also call for you to bring justice and equity to the peoples. Guide us into your kingdom where all people are treated with dignity and honour as your children for, to all of us, you are our Heavenly Father. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Requests for prayer may be sent to the office at info@ottawacathedral.ca and will be prayed for during the week by our Clergy and Prayer Team.
