Blessing of the Animals

Sunday, October 6th at 4 pm

Bring your dog, snake, goldfish, parrot, cat, ferret, duck, hedgehog, or favourite stuffed animal for a blessing! The Cathedral Girls Choir will sing and lull all into joy, and our neighbours from the Vista on Sparks will provide treats. For the comfort and the safety of all present, human and animals, please bring your pets on a leash or otherwise secure in a carrier or cage.

Preparing treats for our pets

Here are our neighbours from the Vista on Sparks packaging up treats for our Blessing of the Animals on Sunday. This great partnership is further developing as we look to future events and activities that we can offer together. By the end of October, the Vista offices will have relocated into 412 Sparks and residents will begin to move in. Exciting times on our block!

A New Welcome to our Cathedral

Stepping up

This Sunday our new steps will be in use! There are temporary handrails in place until the new ones are made and installed, hopefully in the next month or so. You can see in the background of this photo that the west steps have now been demolished and the masonry will be repointed before the foundations are poured for the new risers.

Congratulations, Owen!

Congratulations, Owen!

Award winner

Owen Spicer, our Assistant Organist, has been awarded the annual Godfrey Hewitt Memorial Scholarship, a value of $6,000! Owen is a graduate of McGill University with a bachelor's in organ performance and a minor in music theory and choral conducting. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree at McGill in the studio of Isabelle Demers. We are blessed to have him on staff, not only for his musical and conducting talents, but also for his easygoing and positive attitude. Well done, Owen!

Diocesan Time of Prayer
Holy Spirit we celebrate your life in us. Increase our awareness of this power for your service. Open our eyes and ears to the needs of those you put before us, and use us as your hands and feet. Give us courage to open conversations with those we meet, regardless of their appearance, belief, and status; give us your words to say. Grant us discernment to understand the yearnings of hearts and wisdom to know how to help those who seek to understand your Gospel. Help us to be light to your world. Keep us open to the adventure of life where we meet you day by day. Remind us of the need to be open to how you are moving in our midst and in the lives of those both in the mainstream and on the margins. Guide us by your Spirit to those you have already prepared to receive the Good News of your Kingdom. Amen.

A Prayer for Peace
O God of all justice and peace, we cry out to you in the midst of the pain and trauma of violence and fear which prevails in the Holy Land. Be with those who need you in these days of suffering; we pray for people of all faiths - Jews, Muslims, Christians, and for all people of the land. While we pray to you, O Lord, for an end to the violence and the establishment of peace, we also call for you to bring justice and equity to the peoples. Guide us into your kingdom where all people are treated with dignity and honour as your children for, to all of us, you are our Heavenly Father. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Our Clergy and the Cathedral Prayer Team will pray for all requests sent to info@ottawacathedral.ca during the week.
