Cathedral Vicar Supports Ottawa Police Outreach

To 2SLGBTQQIA+ community

Part of Christ Church Cathedral’s mission is to be a meeting place for the community in the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa. In recent years, it has served as a space where representatives of various groups in 2SLGBTQQIA+ (Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and all other sexual orientations and genders) community have met to talk together. They even met with members of the Ottawa Police Service (OPS), an organization with which the community has had a troubled history. The Reverend Canon Doug Richards, vicar of the cathedral and a member of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, has been an important part of bringing people together for these conversations...

PWRDF News

PWRDF News

A new name, opportunity to meet partners, fundraising thanks

New Name
This month, PWRDF members voted to change the organization's name to Alongside Hope. This is a decision that has been many years in the making. While the new name will officially take effect next year, Alongside Hope is already being gradually introduced and has been quite well received by supporters. CLICK HERE for details about the new name.

Meet Our Partners
On Wednesday November 20, beginning at 5:30pm, supporters and friends of PWRDF Ottawa are invited to attend a special Meet Our Partners event. The guests of honour will be Roseline Mukonoweshuro and Farai Bumisai, representing PWRDF partner TSURO Trust in Zimbabwe. Rosaline and Farai will be visiting Canada to deepen the PWRDF / TSURO Trust partnership, and to help raise awareness about the work they are doing in the areas of sustainability, climate action, and food security. The event will include a dinner featuring Zimbabwean food. Everyone is welcome to attend! (see poster and social media image attached)

Branches of Hope
Last year, PWRDF / Alongside Hope Ottawa engaged with parishes and other groups across the Diocese of Ottawa to help raise funds for St. Jude's Family Projects in Masaka, Uganda. We also challenged our diocese to plant trees as part of the Communion Forest initiative. We are very pleased to share that over $7,000.00 was raised and more than 400 trees were distributed for planting across our region! Congratulations and thank you for helping make this initiative a success - our cathedral bought the trees to distribute!

Diocesan Time of Prayer
Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Grant that, by the operation of the Holy Spirit, we your followers may be joined together in unity and peace, and that we may be a holy temple acceptable to you. We pray that as we, and others, plant seeds and bring water, you will bless our efforts and bring forth a bountiful harvest. May your hand be upon every seed that is sown and every drop of water that is poured. We trust in your faithfulness to bring growth and abundance in all areas of our lives and the lives of our parishes. Thank you for providing the inspiration and means for fulfilling your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer for Peace
O God of all justice and peace, we cry out to you in the midst of the pain and trauma of violence and fear which prevails in the Holy Land. Be with those who need you in these days of suffering; we pray for people of all faiths - Jews, Muslims, Christians, and for all people of the land. While we pray to you, O Lord, for an end to the violence and the establishment of peace, we also call for you to bring justice and equity to the peoples. Guide us into your kingdom where all people are treated with dignity and honour as your children for, to all of us, you are our Heavenly Father. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Our Clergy and the Cathedral Prayer Team will pray for all requests sent to info@ottawacathedral.ca during the week.
