Cathedral Newsletter for January 10th 2021

This Sunday we welcome you to celebrate the Baptism of the Lord at 10:30 am, and join in the renewal of our baptismal vows. During this period of lockdown, we welcome The Reverend Scott, who will be assisting with our livestreamed Sunday worship, and the parish of St. Luke's Ottawa, who will be worshipping with us online. Reverend Victoria will be preaching on Sunday, and due to the current restrictions around numbers in the church, one of the clergy will be worshipping from home each week. Please join us Sunday morning! https://www.youtube.com/c/christchurchcathedralottawa

As we have returned to the RED level of restriction under pandemic guidelines there will not be any in-person service. Please join our live-stream from our YouTube channel (click the link below). We hope you will share this service with others in appropriate ways, abiding physical distancing.

Call is out for Vestry Reports for 2020

Call is out for Vestry Reports for 2020

As we wrap up final tasks related to the year 2020 and bid farewell to a year we could not have foretold, we are looking forward to our annual Vestry meeting scheduled for Sunday February 28th 2021. This meeting will likely be held "virtually" with details to come as the Diocese prepares guidelines for all parishes.

The preparation of the Vestry Circular will not change from the summary you are familiar with and to that end, requests have been sent to the leads of all Cathedral groups asking for submission of reports by Sunday January 17th. Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Offerings from St. Luke's

Offerings from St. Luke's

On Wednesdays, St. Luke's offers a Service of the Word with Lectio divina on Zoom. Three different translations (NRSV, Good News and The Message) of the Gospel for the coming Sunday are read, and we are guided by the questions "What word or phrase stood out for you?" "What spoke to you in the passage?" "What meaning had you not perceived before?" and "What is the Gospel asking you to do today?". All are welcome. Click here for the Zoom link.

Wonder and Grief: A Virtual Poetry Dive—Pre-pandemic, the Ottawa Poetry Bards regularly offered Sacred Poetry Walks at St. Luke's. These poetry walks have gone virtual, transforming into Poetry Dives and the next one will be offered on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021 on Zoom. Click here for more information and to register.

St. Luke's offers a weekly newsletter with worship resources and much more. Click here to subscribe, or here to look at previous editions.
Second book study begins with The Universal Christ

Second book study begins with The Universal Christ

Following the great success of the first Diocesan wide Zoom book study, a second one is being planned. Beginning February 4th and running for six weeks from 7:00 to 8:30pm, we will look at Richard Rohr’s book “The Universal Christ.”

“Fr. Richard challenges us to search beneath the surface of our faith and see what is sacred in everyone and everything. Anyone who strives to put their faith into action will find encouragement and inspiration in the pages of this book.” -Melinda Gates, author of The Moment of Lift"
