New Year's Day Service with the Primate

New Year's Day Service with the Primate

Online January 1 beginning at 10 am

This Choral Morning Prayer for Christmastide will be broadcast from Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa, with our Primate, Archbishop Linda Nicholls, as the preacher.

This will be a liturgical celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Ottawa, with a forward-looking focus as we renew our commitment to serving Christ through our parish and community ministries and to re-shaping our life as a diocesan church.

Bishop Shane will preside at the service and will make announcements concerning a new name for our central office at 71 Bronson Avenue, and an important new development in our calling to provide affordable housing.

Welcoming St. Luke's Back to the Cathedral

Welcoming St. Luke's Back to the Cathedral

As we step into the New Year and manage another closure of the churches in Ottawa, we are pleased to once again be partnering with our neighbours from St. Luke's and the Reverend Victoria Scott for online services. Please join the live-stream on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am, available on our Cathedral's YouTube channel.

Farewell to Canon Hilary

Farewell to Canon Hilary

With our love and blessings

January 9th, 2022 will be Canon Hilary's last day with us as she transitions from her current position as Canon Pastor of the Cathedral to full-time Chaplain to the Cornerstone Housing Program for Women, a Diocesan Community Ministry. Canon Hilary was serving at Cornerstone in a half-time capacity while she was Canon Pastor. Although we will miss her many gifts and infectious smile, we know that Cornerstone will be well served to have her with them on a full-time basis.

As our Cathedral is closed during this time, personal messages and cards can be directed to Canon Hilary at the Cathedral (hilary.murray@ottawacathedral.ca or 414 Sparks Street, Ottawa, ON, K1R 0B2). Those wishing to offer gifts of thanksgiving for her ministry with us may choose to direct donations to the Cathedral, marked "Pastoral Ministries".

At our livestreamed service on January 2nd, Canon Hilary will preach, and on the 9th, she will celebrate and there will be special prayers of blessing for her. Please keep Canon Hilary in your prayers as she makes this move, called to serve in a new ministry in our diocese!

Choral Evensong Returns for the New Year

Choral Evensong Returns for the New Year

An online offering

On Sunday afternoon, January 16th at 4 pm, we will offer a Choral Evensong featuring Cathedral musicians. This special program will continue on the first and third Sundays of each month until Lent. We hope you will join us and invite others to do the same.

This program will be offered by livestream only for the immediate future. Watch the newsletter for possible changes as pandemic guidelines evolve.

Memorial Flowers

Memorial Flowers

Every Sunday we marvel at the beautiful flowers that adorn the Cathedral. Many of you will know that these flowers are dedicated by individuals and families to loved ones who have died, some recently and some longer ago, and all remembered with a special tribute.

If you are interested in making a memorial donation in remembrance on an upcoming Sunday, please contact the cathedral office at info@ottawacathedral.ca for more information. The dedication is noted each week in the Order of Service
