Orange Shirt DayFriday, September 30th Orange Shirt Day began in 2013—but in reality it began in 1973 when six year old Phyllis Webstad entered the St. Joseph Mission Residential School, outside of Williams Lake, BC. (https://www.orangeshirtday.org/phyllis-story.html). Last year, the Government of Canada passed a bill naming September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which was proposed by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as one of its 94 Calls to Action.

A Familiar Practice ReturnsReceiving Communion along the altar rail On Harvest Thanksgiving, Sunday, October 9th, our Cathedral will return to the practice of receiving communion along the altar rail instead of at standing stations. If you have become acustomed to standing and wish to stand at the rail, please do. If you prefer to kneel, please do. If you need a little extra space around you, please take it. If stairs are an issue for accessing the rail, please use the ramp on the east side of the nave. Also, communion may be brought to those with mobility challenges, please just mention this to a sidesperson. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to Dean Beth. |

An Intergenerational EventSunday, October 16th after the 10.30 am service Please join us for an intergenerational event marking the Season of Creation, a global celebration and call to action for the Christian community. This year we will unite around the theme “Listen to the Voice of Creation" and the symbol of the burning bush. We will visit the story of God’s presence revealed to Moses through the burning bush. This holy fire affirmed that God heard the cries of all who suffered, and promised to be with us as we followed in faith to our deliverance from injustice. We reflect on the fires we see in the world today, the voices going unheard, and the ways God calls us into action. The session will take place after the 10:30 am service and will include lunch, a story, and group activities for adults and children alike.
Please register for this event below, or email to info@ottawacathedral.ca or call the cathedral office at (613) 236 9149.

Homelessness and Affordable HousingMaking your vote count The Anglican Church of Canada and the Diocese of Ottawa have officially declared homelessness and affordable housing to be a priority for our church. In January of this year, Ottawa City Council unanimously declared an emergency on housing and homelessness. Yet despite the attention given to this issue, homelessness and the lack of affordable housing continue at unprecedented levels. Please click below to find some helpful questions for the candidates about their stand on this important issue.
