Celebrating Holy Week and Easter from Home

Celebrating Holy Week and Easter from Home

A message from our Bishop

Dear Friends,

You are all aware of recent rapid changes in restrictions that have been imposed on regions across Ontario and Quebec as the spread of COVID-19 variants continues. In some parts of our diocese, heath units have introduced more restrictive class orders in order to curtail spread—even as the rollout of vaccines intensifies. This pandemic battle is very real and has caused a material change that cannot be disregarded as we consider our plans as a diocesan church.

Accordingly, I feel compelled to immediately inform you that our diocese will remain in our Red Stage until further notice. This means that we must again keep our buildings closed for in-person worship as we observe Holy Week and celebrate Easter. I said last year that we must become expert in doing ministry in every stage of our plan. I know, from many virtual visits in parishes across our diocese, that we have indeed become expert at worshipping in Red Stage—as well as offering effective ministries of pastoral care, teaching, outreach, and fellowship. Let us rely on our expertise, creativity, collaboration, and strong faith to mark this holiest time in the Christian calendar with intention, conviction, and hope.

We will continue to monitor the situation very closely, and will hold off on any decision to move to Amber Stage reopening until we are reassured that we are likely at the beginning of the way out of the pandemic. God willing, and human beings behaving in wise and considerate ways, we will soon see our way out of this challenging season in the life of our world.

Be steadfast in faith, joyful in hope, and untiring in love; be certain that the indestructible love of God, perfectly revealed in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, is with you; and be at peace as you entrust our future to the Creator of Creation. If you have any questions about this Communiqué, please contact the COVID-19 help desk at C19helpdesk@ottawa.anglican.ca.

+Shane

Please continue to pray and give thanks for our diocesan leadership, and especially Bishop Shane, during these pandemic days.

The Way of the Cross

The Way of the Cross

A Virtual Labyrinth Event

On Monday, March 22nd beginning at 7pm Cathedral Labyrinth Guild members Mary-Catharine Carroll and Gwynneth Evans invite you to accompany Simon and Veronica on the Way of the Cross and then enter into the mystery of the labyrinth for a meditation.

The Stations of the Cross, or Way of the Cross, offer images which tell the story of Christ’s Passion. They are a popular devotion, found in many Western Christian churches. The Stations invite the faithful to make a spiritual pilgrimage through meditating on the Passion. During our gathering, we will contemplate the two models of service (practical and loving) embodied by Simon (Station 5) and Veronica (Station 6).

PRE-REGISTER by calling 613.236.9149 or email to info@ottawacathedral.ca. Additional information and Zoom connection details will be forwarded to program participants.
Please consider making a donation to St. Luke's Table, the Anglican Street Ministry in Ottawa at http://stlukestable.ca/index.php/how-to-help

Pilgrimage to Coventry

Pilgrimage to Coventry

Join the Dean in this online experience

As a partner in the Community of the Cross of Nails, cathedral members are encouraged to visit Coventry and share in its very special and powerful message of reconciliation. Twice a year, in spring and autumn, a pilgrimage is hosted specifically for this purpose. It is an occasion for partners, current and aspiring, to come together at  Coventry Cathedral for prayer and contemplation, to meet others in the network, to share their stories and experiences, and to learn from and be involved in the work of the Cathedral’s global reconciliation ministry.

This year, due to Covid-19, they held their first, and very successful, online pilgrimage! You can read about it here. And now there will be an online spring pilgrimage on April 28th-30th, from 2pm to 6pm UK time. Our dean has been to Coventry and will be attending and she would love to have company! Please register by emailing alice.farnhill@coventrycathedral.org.uk and also contact the cathedral office by email at info@ottawacathedral.ca or by phone at 613.236.9149 to let us know if you will be attending. We look forward to having a cathedral group share this once in a lifetime experience!

Help Cathedral groups' doves take flight!

Help Cathedral groups' doves take flight!

The Cathedral Girls' Choir and Sunday School are making 100 origami doves to contribute to the Diocese's The Thousand Doves Project!

This special initiative supports the Diocese's refugee ministry; a ministry which brings together the unique capacities of the Diocese's Refugee Ministry Office with committed refugee sponsorship groups in our Anglican parishes to help over a hundred refugees annually rebuild their lives in the Ottawa region. When combined with the doves made by others in our Diocese, our Girls' Choir and Sunday School efforts will result in a hope-inspiring display for all to enjoy, as the flock is collected and installed above the nave of Cathedral for the “reveal” on Pentecost Sunday, May 23.

CLICK HERE to sponsor the Girls' Choir and Sunday School's doves. Remember to indicate "Cathedral groups" at the bottom of the donation form.

Thank you for your support for this life-giving ministry!  And thanks to our talented dove-makers!

Offerings from St. Luke's

Offerings from St. Luke's

On Wednesdays, St. Luke's offers a Service of the Word with Lectio divina on Zoom. Three different translations (NRSV, Good News and The Message) of the Gospel for the coming Sunday are read, and we are guided by the questions "What word or phrase stood out for you?" "What spoke to you in the passage?" "What meaning had you not perceived before?" and "What is the Gospel asking you to do today?". All are welcome. Click here for the Zoom link.

St. Luke's offers a weekly newsletter with worship resources and much more. CLICK HERE to subscribe, or here to look at previous editions.
