At noon on World Day of the Poor, November 17, 2019 Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa will join 50 centres across the world which will gather around Timothy Schmalz’s sculptures of Homeless Jesus to pray for the poor and marginalized.
Three years ago Pope Francis named this Sunday in the liturgical calendar as "World Day of the Poor" and now many Christians of different denominations take part. The day is intended to inspire people worldwide to greater service of the poor and marginalized.
At Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa a procession will leave from the high altar at the end of the principal service (just before noon) and gather around the Homeless Jesus sculpture in the forecourt of the Cathedral for a short vigil service.
